BONE BREATH GESTURE (Cape), 2019
Bespoke toile, ribbon
Unisex, one size
‘BONE BREATH GESTURE (Cape)’ is one of Fay’s costumes, made and worn by the artist and her performers during live works. Fay’s performances explore synesthetic connections between colour and tone, mark and gesture and often involve working with an ensemble to recite polyphonic songs and devise choreography. The costumes are a way of connecting the bodies of performers to the qualities of visual works. Combined they create a visual world of interconnected motifs, patterns and gestures.
‘BONE BREATH GESTURE (Cape)’ utilises black stripes – one of Fay’s signature motifs – and has been custom printed onto light toile fabric, with a lemon-yellow ribbon edge. Working with the translucence of the material, the layers of stripes create criss-cross, moiré patterns to accentuate the movements of the fabric when activated by the wearer. It is a unique object, designed and made by Fay.Fay Nicolson's website
